Rest in Peace

Loved ones,

Scott passed away this morning at 4:35am and is finally at peace.  The pain and fear is gone, and I know he is already watching over us.  His suffering is over.  "Rest in Peace" - I never truly understood those words until now.

When I was writing my post last night, I was so fearful that he would continue to suffer and linger for many days, but it turns out he was waiting for his nephew's birthdays to pass like he said he wanted to.  The day he found out that he had only days left, he asked what date it was.  We told him it was April 16th, and he was scared that he would die on the 24th, on his beloved nephew's first birthdays.  He wasn't going to let that happen, and if you know Scott, that shouldn't surprise you at all.

The funeral will be on Friday at 10:15am.

The funeral home is the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel

The cemetary is the Eternal Light Memorial Gardnes

This will not be the last post on this blog.  In the coming days, I have much to say and share.  I want to post pictures and stories about the wonderful man he was, and I want all of you to have the opportunity to do the same.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss - it's not just me or his family - we know all of you will miss him everyday.  He touched so many hearts.  Please keep your good memories of him with you to make you smile.  He made a difference in this world.

Love,
Amy

  6. Reading the post just above this one (as I type) makes me smile. Scott was always Santa Claus for the children of our 'Alcon Family' at the OTC. He was such a kind soul. He helped me out countless times at work. Although I haven't seen him since he left Alcon I will have fond memories of the man that he was. My thoughts and prayers go to Amy and his family. Rest in Peace Dear Scott. Kimberly

  7. Amy and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Scott was smart, witty, and lots of fun to be around. It makes me smile to think of him hiding in his cube at Alcon and playing Santa Claus at the children's Christmas party. He got the biggest kick out of it. Scott always had wonderful things to say about Amy and knew that she would be the one. I feel blessed to have known him.
He will not be forgotten. Lori

  8. Amy and Family. I was truly blessed by having the opportunity to work with Scott closely at Alcon. He was a joy to work with and such a kind happy person. He was the perfect Santa Claus and he enjoyed every minute. I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing. He will be with us all as he rests in peace and is no longer in pain. My prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. Scott is a blessing to all of us.

  9. I'm so sad about Scott's passing. Every time I've listened to Billy Joel or REO Speedwagon during the past 16 years, I always think about Scott. RIP

  11. Amy, I am speechless and inspired. Unfortunately, when you left I knew there was so much going on in your life with you and Scott's treatment that I lost touch with. I would check in with Dave here and there to see how you were doing but I did not know that the cancer had taken a turn for the worse. I'm so happy that you used this as a great outlet to express how you feel but to allow others to share in his journey as well. I was glad when reading one of your recent post that you will continue to write. I hope at some point you turn this into a book because you and Scott could help so many more people beyond this blog with everything both of you have gone through. Many people will be stronger because of you and your husband. After I read some of your post I know I felt stronger. I understand what you have been going through having lived it with another close friend. My prayers go out to you, both families yours and his, all of your friends and everyone who took the time to read this journey...It has touched my soul and I know it has touched many others. Sending you much love!

  12. I'm sorry for your loss and all those who knew him. What a smart wonderful guy. I worked with Scott and shared his love of the space shuttle. He always shared the emails from your friend Robert at the Cape whenever the shuttle was on a mission. He loved to tell the story of your wedding present to him, a tour of the shuttle at the Cape. He will be greatly missed but we can find comfort in the many memories he left us with. Carol

  13. Amy -

I am sure that you have mixed feelings about Scott's passing. His pain and suffering is over, and that is a blessing, but I am sure that you will really miss him! He was a wonderful young man (I met him at work) and I enjoyed him very much. I pray for peace and healing for you and your families in the weeks and months to come. Thanks for sharing him with us through your blog.

My heart goes out to you, I cannot find the words to express my feelings. I only met Scott the one time he came to the office; I was so happy for the two of you. I only just found out that Scott's cancer was terminal, followed by news of his passing. I am simply grief-struck over your loss.

  15. Amy,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was just on Facebook and saw a posting with Scott's picture with a tag and condolences and was confused. I went on his Facebook page and found this link and blog. I worked with Scott in Florida and was there when he was first hired. He loved you so deeply and completely. I left the company and moved to across the country. Before I left, he gave me a goodbye card signed by close co-workers that was handmade by you which I still have and treasure. He was really proud to have you as his wife and your ability to handcraft personalized gifts. He was a wonderful guy to work with. God bless you and your family during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and Scott's family.

  16. Amy, hi doll baby, I miss you so much, Lord I wish so terribly I could come and hold you, not being able to go and say goodbye to Scott will haunt me the rest of my life and tear at my heart. Amy I am so proud of you for the strength you had from day 1. You amazed and inspired me to work thru my pain and be stronger in my daily life. Scott inspired me and got me off the couch or bed, to ignore what my hurting back and legs were telling me and to get myself moving. Because of Scott's courage and determination and your strength I now have my desire back to do things, anything, desire that was dormant for years. You continue to inspire me kiddo because I know that each day you find yourself hurting more than the day before (as you have told me) yet you make it thru that day, I don't know how but you are digging down deep inside baby, and you ARE getting thru those days and that is because you are a strong woman, all your life you have been even if you didn't realize it Amy, oh God Amy, it WILL get better. I am so amazed at this blog, at the people, friends, family and strangers, who if they didn't already, fell in love with Scott and yes you too. You did a wonderful thing Amy, sharing your true love with everyone by allowing us all into your most personal lives. Thank you. I love you doll baby, yes I miss knowing Scott is not there with you in body but yes, he is there with you in spirit so add a smile and maybe a laugh each day, talk to him and believe that as I said, it will get better, easier. Talk to you soon, call me anytime.
